Mega Noodle Maker Marugame Udon Expands Into Glendale and Downtown LA

The Glendale Galleria location opens December 20, with DTLA slated for early 2019

Widely-regarded as some of LA’s better Japanese quick service restaurants, Marugame Udon is setting up in two new shops in the next three months. The noodle specialty shop will open in the Glendale Galleria on December 20, with another at The Bloc in late January or early February.

These openings come only a few months after Marugame opened in the Beverly Center, with a 3,000 square foot South Coast Plaza outpost scheduled to open soon. Marugame Udon debuted its first LA location on Sawtelle. Since its inception in 2006, the company is all about rapid expansions, with over 1,000 worldwide locations. Once all are fully operational, that brings a total of five throughout Southern California within 17 months.

Expect the same cafeteria-style service and menu at these new locations with some seasonal variety, but no alcohol will be available. Step up to the front, pick a bowl, add toppings like tempura, then pay toward the end of the line. It’s an experience that’s pretty reflective of what one would find in busy city centers in Japan. The Bloc space is still in the middle of construction, with a 2,430 square feet plus a 400 square foot patio.
