LudoBird fried chicken lands at Universal CityWalk

LudoBird has fluttered into Universal CityWalk and landed on the popular attraction’s restaurant row.

Award-winning chef Ludo Lefebvre’s new noshing spot, which opened Saturday, has a narrow focus: fried chicken. So the menu is a quick read.

There are five fried chicken dishes, six sauces, four sides, one dessert and six beverage options. So, diners at LudoBird know just what they are getting into.

And it’s not just any old fried bird.

Lefebvre specializes in buttermilk Provençal fried chicken.

“In my 20th year in Los Angeles, I’m excited to open LudoBird at Universal CityWalk,” Lefebvre said in a statement. “As the top entertainment destination in Los Angeles, CityWalk is the ideal match for my passion for this great city where I can create sensational food everyone can enjoy.”

The menu consists of a buttermilk Provençal fried chicken sandwich, a spicy bird sandwich, buttermilk fried chicken, honey garlic wings and popcorn chicken bites.

The sides are Ludo slaw, a honey lavender biscuit, potato salad and house-made chips.

Sauce choices are Bearnaise, honey mustard, piquillo pepper, spicy bird sauce, LudoBird special sauce and, of course, ranch.

And if all this chicken chowing down gives you a sweet tooth, you can order dessert, the Ludo sweet and salty ice cream sandwich.

The LudoBird concept originated from Lefebvre’s food truck, the LudoTruck, which used to prowl the city dishing up fried chicken.

And the chef has some chops, according to the bio on his website.

Lefebvre trained in France for 12 years and now owns the Trois Familia, Petit Trois and Trois Mec restaurants.

Trois Mec made both Esquire and GQ magazine’s list of Best New Restaurants and topped the list for both Los Angeles Magazine and LA Weekly. Lefebvre was also named “One of The World’s 50 Greatest Chefs” by Relais & Chateaux, a global fellowship of individually owned and operated luxury hotels and restaurants, and he was nominated for a James Beard Award in 2001 and 2015.

LudoBird now gives CityWalk 30 dining options.

“We are thrilled to welcome celebrated chef Ludo Lefebvre to Universal CityWalk as we begin to phase in the next evolution of our dynamic CityWalk entertainment complex,” Larry Kurzweil, president of Universal Studios Hollywood, said in an email. “LudoBird’s landing coincides with Universal Studios Hollywood’s much anticipated opening of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,’ and we look forward to entertaining guests with everything that’s exceptional, from attractions to food.”
