Ammo Rebrands as Ammo-To-Go on Melrose, Plans Takeout Dominance This Fall

So now that the world has gotten a peek inside the future home of Salt’s Cure 2.0 on Highland, there’s only one big, glaring question left: What’s to become of Ammo? The well-liked neighborhood spot had been operating from the soon-to-be Salt’s Cure location for years — they also have a location inside the Hammer Museum in Westwood — but got the boot at their original spot over the summer to make room for Chris Phelps and Zak Walters’ meaty eatery.
At the time, the only real details had Ammo transitioning over to Melrose and into more of a grab-and-go format under the new name Ammo-To-Go, but now it’s clear that the team there will have the chance to be so much more than that. New renderings show the scaled-down space, designed by Commune Design (they also work with Ace Hotels), which will include a wrapping bar along one wall and the front window for casual breakfast and lunchtime eating.
Ammo joins a number of recent restaurants who have been able to work small storefronts to great effect, including the lauded Dune in Atwater Village and, on an even smaller scale, Rice Bar Downtown. The plan for the new Ammo is to arrive by the end of September, with that limited in-house seating as well as delivery and takeout. The menu will be a mix of morning coffees and baked goods, plus classic Ammo lunch dishes that have been retooled for the new environment.
When Ammo reopens, expect daily hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
