Forman’s Toluca Lake A Whiskey Bar & Restaurant in L.A.

Hunting For Good Drinks In A Re-Created Hunting Lodge

A new hot trend in Los Angeles is the emergence of upscale whiskey bars.

In Toluca Lake, the place is Forman’s, just opened in August, which has the look and feel of a hunting lodge in upstate New York.

The decor features bench seating upholstered with plaid wool fabric, facing tables of reclaimed oak. On the walls are landscapes, portraits, mirrors, a sled and snowshoes. There’s paintings of the wooded Northeast and a century-old fireplace mantle. The bar’s central features is large communal table.

It’s named after General Charles Forman, the Eastern native who settled and named Toluca Lake,

Executive Chef Nick Coe has an 801-lb smoker and a wood-fired grill to cook from a menu of shared plates, salads, double-ground burgers and smoke and wood-fired dishes.

But really, you want to know about the cocktails.

Beverage Director Dylan Snyder has created three special ones: the Mint Sweet Tea on draft (Evan Williams Bourbon, Forman’s Mint Sweet Tea), Cucumber Swizzle (El Silencio Mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, Cucumber Juice, Ginger Syrup, Lime), and Sage Goldrush (Rittenhouse Bonded Rye, Lairds Bonded, Bacardi 8yr, Sage, Buck Wheat Honey, Lemon).

Foreman’s is operated by the ACME Hospitality Group, which runs Beelman’s Pub, Laurel Tavern, Library Bar and Spring St. Bar in L.A.
