Superba Food + Bread Tracking for Mid-November at The Point in El Segundo

Plus, Pasadena is back in the works.

The next location of the still-growing Superba empire is coming together quickly, with the planned November arrival of Superba Food + Bread at The Point in El Segundo.

Already hopping with quality concepts, from ShopHouse to North Italia to True Food Kitchen, the South Bay shopping center is soon to receive Paul Hibler’s all-day bakery-focused option, which currently exists as a flagship in Venice, though a Pasadena annex has been long in the works.

The growth comes amidst a period of relative calm for American Gonzo Food Corporation, Hibler’s restaurant group, following many months of uncertainty both in the front and back of house. Several chefs and bakery leaders have come and gone since Superba Food + Bread first opened, while over at Snack Bar, Sydney Hunter III was recently promoted to chef de cuisine.

Chef Kazuto Matsusaka and his wife Vicki have been in at Superba Food + Bread for some time now, with overall pastry director Carlos Enriquez taking over most of the high-level bread and pastry duties back in July. Their on-site garden, which supplies herbs for Food + Bread and acts as an outdoor dining space, is also now in full swing after hiring gardener Courtney Guerra.

As for the Pasadena location of Food + Bread, which was long supposed to act as an even more casual takeaway option, things are still coming along. The site, attached to one of Hibler’s popular Pitfire Pizza locations on Arroyo Parkway, was first mentioned last year, but has taken much longer than anticipated to form as the Venice location continued churning.

Now with the news that the location at The Point is almost ready, attention will soon turn back to Pasadena’s easygoing coffee and pastry option, which could hopefully arrive early next year.
