Dudley Market Adds All-Day Dining to Venice
Chef Jesse Barber has slowly been rolling out Dudley Market in Venice, a new all-day retail space that’s also serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in its dining room. Already open for daytime service, the full nighttime menu rolls out this week. Set in a historic building a few steps from the Boardwalk, the place is all exposed brick walls, wood beams, subway tiles and vintage lights. There are communal tables, mismatched chairs, and shelves stocked with artisanal goods that Barber uses in the kitchen, things like Sfoglini pastas and Ritual chocolates, along with candles, linens, ceramics, and even beach necessities like lip balm, sunscreen and earbuds. But don’t be fooled: it’s more of a restaurant with fun little things to buy than a shop with a restaurant.
Barber, who was last at nearby Barnyard and the Tasting Kitchen, keeps that seasonal sensibility and a simplicity to his menus. For breakfast, there are eggs Benedict with lox and hollandaise, quiche, crab-stuffed omelets and more. At lunch, look for banh mi and fried chicken sandwiches; tomato soup with fried leeks and pistou; and mushroom salad with shaved fennel and Comte cheese. For dinner, the room gets reset for a more refined experience (i.e. proper stemware) with a menu featuring potato terrine with grilled squid; pork loin with blackened onion and marmalade glaze; and lamb belly with split beans, morels and cava. There’s also a significant amount of grab-and-go items for easy take-away, too. Dudley Market opens daily for breakfast and lunch, 7 AM-2 PM, and dinner, 5-10 PM.
