Officine Brera Finally Plans to Start Cooking in the Arts District on February 5
After lengthy delays, the place is almost ready.
Though no one quite knows what to believe anymore, Officine Brera ownership swears this time around that their outsized Arts District restaurant will be ready to launch on Friday, February 5. One of the most anticipated restaurants of last fall (and now winter), the wood-fired eatery has encountered numerous delays that have pushed their targeted September arrival by nearly half a year.
Along the way, owner Matteo Ferdinandi has managed to wrangle up a strong culinary team. There’s Mirko Paderno, who left his post at the former Oliviero restaurant (now Viviane) to come on board in July. Paderno is a bit of a meat whisperer, which bodes well for the restaurant’s animal protein-heavy menu, which is largely based on the open cooking of the northern Italian plains.
There’s also Angelo Auriana from The Factory Kitchen, which is Officine Brera’s sister restaurant both in ownership and location. He’ll be overseeing the general menu, with Paderno acting as chef de cuisine. Meanwhile, Francine Diamond-Ferdinandi will oversee the beverage program.
As for the space, one can only assume that it’s completely (or mostly) finished at this point. The plan, at least back in the summer, has been to let customers have an open view of the Italian-style domed oven that will be cooking much of their food, while an L-shaped bar in one corner will focus on drinks and snackier items. Private dining rooms and a large patio round out the busy floor plan.
